The prosecutor’s office asks the court to replace Metropolitan Pavel’s house arrest with custody

A petition to change the measure of restraint of Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed) from round-the-clock house arrest to detention has been sent to the Solomensky district court of Kiev. This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General on its own official website.

This is due to the fact that under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Kyiv regional Prosecutor’s office on the basis of newly revealed facts to the rector of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was informed of a new suspicion.

“The clergyman made statements that justified and denied the actions of the aggressor state. In his speeches he repeatedly insulted the religious feelings of Ukrainians, humiliated the views of believers of other confessions and tried to form hostile attitudes towards them. Also, within the framework of criminal proceedings the facts of communication of the metropolitan with a witness in criminal proceedings were established, despite the relevant prohibition on this in the court decision,” the UCP said in a statement.
