The head of the OCU, Epiphany Dumenko, made a foreign tour in support of the bill No. 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. On April 10, 2024 in Geneva, during a meeting with the Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, Epiphany convinced those present that there is not a single religious organization in Ukraine that would oppose the law #8371. “There is not a single religious association in Ukraine that would support publicly that religious organizations in Ukraine can continue to be subordinate to structures that are controlled by the Russian state. After all, everyone sees how the Russian state uses religion to justify a war of aggression. The amendments to the legislation proposed in parliament (draft law No 8371, – ed.) do not affect freedom of religion, but on the contrary – protect religious organizations in Ukraine from becoming a tool of the Kremlin’s hybrid warfare”, – Epiphany Dumenko said.

Note, earlier we reported that on April 10, 2024, representatives of the State Service for Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience held a working meeting with members of the Conference of European Churches. During the communication with the representatives of the CEC, the HESS staff convinced them of the necessity to adopt the bill No. 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The HECS argued that there is a conflict between the UOC and Ukrainian society, which the state is trying to resolve by adopting such a law.
