An MP of the European Solidarity faction, Iryna Herashchenko, has said that the Verkhovna Rada does not want to put the bill No 8371 aimed at banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to a vote in the second reading. In her opinion, the vote is being sabotaged primarily by representatives of the pro-presidential Servant of the People party. About this she told in a comment to the publication Telegraf.

“Stefanchuk (Speaker of Parliament – ed.) is really making steps to put this bill on the agenda, but there is no serious support among the “servants” themselves. I think that in the “Servant of the people” and their satellites from the OPZZH have a serious lobby of the UOC,” – said Gerashchenko.

In addition, the MP suggested sending a delegation to the United States, which would be able to convince Western partners that the adoption of the law № 8371, banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, is actually a necessary step of the Verkhovna Rada.

“So, maybe we should just delegate Ukrainian clergymen, pastors, including those from the occupied territories, to the United States to tell about the atrocities the Russians committed? I would do so,” – summarized Gerashchenko.

It is worth noting that Gerashchenko is not the first MP who proposed to send a delegation to the United States to defend the law on the ban of the UOC. Earlier we reported that an MP from the Servant of the People party, Nikita Poturaev, came up with a similar initiative.
