Metropolitan Theodosius discussed international freedom of religion with the Director of the British Parliamentary Committee

On February 21, 2024, Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kanevsky met online with Julia Jones, Director of the UK Parliamentary Committee on International Religious Freedom. This is reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC with reference to the press service of the Cherkassy Diocese.

The hierarch informed the representative of the British Parliament about the bill prepared for adoption in Ukraine, which will restrict religious freedom, about the facts of seizures of churches, criminal cases against metropolitans, decisions of local authorities to cancel the rights of religious organizations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to land plots, sanctions applied to the episcopate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reverse restitution (expropriation) of historical buildings of churches and monasteries from the Church and many other things.

“The voiced facts caused extreme interest of the head of the parliamentary committee in view of the lack of awareness of parliamentary circles of Great Britain about the problems of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The parties agreed to continue further work to find ways to help the believers and religious organizations of the UOC in their human rights activities. In particular, it was decided to meet in Kiev, where Metropolitan Theodosius is now under house arrest”, – the statement said.

We will remind, earlier we wrote that the press service of Cherkasy diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reported about the deterioration of health and emergency hospitalization of Metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kanevsk Feodosiy (Snigirev).
