Metropolitan Arseniy, the vicar of the Holy Assumption Sviatogorsk Lavra, has been sent to a pre-trial detention center. The court ordered to remand the bishop in custody for 2 months without the right to bail. This is reported on Facebook-page of the Donetsk regional Prosecutor’s office.

“At the request of prosecutors of the Donetsk regional Prosecutor’s office to a native of the Republic of Karelia rf (Metropolitan Arseny, – ed.), who is reasonably suspected of unauthorized dissemination of information about the placement of the Armed forces of Ukraine elected a measure of restraint in the form of detention without the alternative of bail (part 2 of article 114-2 of the Criminal code of Ukraine)”, – stated in the message.

The prosecutor’s office added that the bishop is being tried for the situation of almost a year ago, in which the investigation saw the corpus delicti. Metropolitan Arseny is accused of disseminating information about the positions of the Armed forces of Ukraine. He faces up to 8 years in prison.

“In September 2023, the rector of the Svyatogorsk Holy Assumption Lavra of the UOC MP disseminated information of a military nature. In particular, during his sermon he told the faithful about the locations of roadblocks, as well as units of the AFU, SSU, NPU and the Ukrainian Defense Forces on the territory of Sviatogorsk MG. Pre-trial investigation – MO SSU in Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The maximum penalty – 8 years of imprisonment”, – summarized in the Donetsk Prosecutor’s office.

We will remind, April 24, 2024 the Security Service of Ukraine conducted searches in the Assumption Sviatogorsk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and detained the vicar of the monastery Metropolitan of Sviatogorsk Arseniy. The bishop is accused of “subversive activity.” According to the special service, Metropolitan Arseniy disclosed the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the Russians.
