The Information and Educational Department of the UOC published a commentary by the Legal Department of the UOC regarding the verdict on Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchin and Bratslav.
“We consider the conviction of Metropolitan Jonathan (Yeletsky) of Tulchin and Bratslav unlawful, and the court verdict is obviously illegal and subject to review and cancellation by the court of appeal,” the commentary says.
The Legal Department noted that, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is legally proven and established by a court verdict.
“We inform you that as of 08/07/2023 there is no court decision that has entered into legal force, which would become the basis for the assertion that Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchin and Bratslav committed crimes. substantive and procedural law, which will be the basis for an appeal against such a court decision, as already indicated by the defenders of the Metropolitan,” the lawyers noted.
Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchin and Bratslav has repeatedly stated that he does not plead guilty to all charges. And the Metropolitan’s representatives, based on the results of the announced court decision, reported that the defense would definitely file an appeal against the obviously illegal verdict of the Vinnitsa City Court of the Vinnitsa Region.
