The UOC commented on the decision of the Romanian Church to create the “Romanian Church of Ukraine”

The head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s information department, Metropolitan Kliment of Nizhyn and Priluk, has said that the Romanian Church’s decision to set up the “Romanian Church of Ukraine” was caused by concerns about the safety of Romanian-speaking parishes in Ukraine due to the actions of the authorities and the OCU. The vladyka said this in a commentary to the UOJ.

Metropolitan Kliment noted that “the Romanian Church with its decisions to the whole world testified to the fact of possible direct state bans and persecution of the UOC, part of which are Romanian-speaking parishes and monasteries in the Ukrainian territories adjacent to modern Romania.”

“By offering its jurisdiction to such ecclesiastical units, the Romanian Church states the obvious danger that they may find themselves outlawed in Ukraine, or even worse, under a direct ban. This is a loud signal to the Ukrainian parliament about how Ukrainian politics is thought of in Europe, and what consequences it will have,” the Bishop emphasized.

The bishop noted that the decision of the Synod of the Romanian Church may indicate processes that potentially threaten the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“It is not clear whether we are talking about the idea of legal registration under Ukrainian laws, or whether such a structure is already registered in Romania. In any case, it poses a danger not only to the Church integrity, but also to state sovereignty in the Ukrainian territory, historically linked to the Romanian state”, – emphasized the hierarch.

We will remind, earlier we wrote that on February 29, 2024 held a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, one of the decisions of which was the establishment of the “Romanian Orthodox Church of Ukraine” in Ukraine.
