The Information and Education Department of the UOC has published a commentary on the Romanian Orthodox Church’s intention to open its structure on the territory of Ukraine.
“The decision of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church on the intention to open its structure on the canonical territory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is perceived by us with surprise and concern, as contrary to the canonical structure of church life, which is built on the territorial, not on the national principle”, – stated in the commentary.
It is also noted that, having Romanian-speaking parishes in its bosom, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church “values them because their presence with us emphasizes the universal nature of the Church. We also do everything necessary for the Romanian-speaking faithful to feel comfortable in the bosom of our Church, having full freedom to perform services in Romanian and to preserve their national-spiritual traditions.”
“Relations between the Romanian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches have always been warm and constructive, and therefore we would like to hope that the decision taken by the Romanian side will be reconsidered and will not overshadow the traditionally good relations between our Churches”, – emphasized in the press service of the UOC.
We will remind, earlier we reported that on February 29, 2024 there was a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, one of the decisions of which was the establishment of the “Romanian Orthodox Church of Ukraine” in Ukraine.
