On March 7, 2024, representatives of the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “Chernihiv Ancient” completely restricted access to the Holy Trinity temple complex of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is an architectural monument. Employees of the “reserve” sealed the entrance gate to the territory of the complex, motivated by this “inspection of the state of the complex”. This was told by the Secretary of the Chernihiv diocese of the UOC Archpriest Igor Pidan.
“Five months ago were closed Trinity Cathedral and bell tower. Today representatives of military formations came with the reserve and closed the entire Holy Trinity complex. Divine service has ceased. None of the clergy has no possibility to enter the territory. No one provides any explanations or documents. Only said that our things can be taken away from Monday”, – said the Secretary of the diocese.
We will remind, earlier we reported that on January 23, 2024 the Economic court of Chernihiv region rejected the claim on two cases of the Office of Chernihiv diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to extend the contracts of free use of architectural objects of national importance. The case concerns the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral and the complex of buildings of the Trinity Monastery within the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Chernihiv Ancient”.
