The court left Metropolitan Jonathan under overnight house arrest

On February 19, 2024, the Vinnytsia Regional Court of Appeal held a hearing on the case of Metropolitan of Tulchyn and Bratslav Jonathan (Yeletskyy). We will remind, earlier the court of first instance sentenced the metropolitan to 5 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, however, the appeal complaints of the bishop’s lawyers were taken into account. In the process of consideration, the hierarch filed a petition to cancel the night house arrest, which the court left without satisfaction. About it reports the official website of the Tulchinsky diocese of the UOC.

“Metropolitan Jonathan petitioned the court to cancel his measure of restraint – night house arrest, due to the end of its term, according to the court legislation, which limits his religious right to perform the morning Divine Liturgy in remote temples of the diocese and outside it. But the appeals court rejected Metropolitan Jonathan’s petition”, – the report says.

It is worth noting that the court proceedings against Metropolitan Jonathan became the subject of research by American and European human rights activists. Earlier we reported that the representative of the international human rights company “Amsterdam & Partners LLP” Robert Amsterdam, representing the legal interests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, expressed surprise at the procedural approach of the SBU officers during the search in the house of Metropolitan of Tulchyn and Bratslav Jonathan (Yeletskykh). Amsterdam was shocked by the fact of falsification of the “evidence” that formed the basis of the metropolitan’s accusation.
