Monks can stay in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, but not the leadership of the UOC

The monks can stay in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, but not the leadership of the UOC. This was stated by the Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko on the air of the telethon, commenting on the decision to terminate the lease agreement for the Lavra with the UOC, Politika Strany writes.

Tkachenko said that, first of all, the abbot of the Lavra, Metropolitans Pavel, Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, and the synodal administration of the UOC administration should leave. And he made it clear that they could be evicted by force.

“I am sure that the situation will change radically when these citizens leave the territory of the Lavra. I think that the joint work of specialists and law enforcement officers will stimulate such a decision,” the minister said.

To a clarifying question about how to become monks after that, the minister said that “they always have a choice”, hinting at the transition to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
