The decision of the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on the possible acceptance under its omophorion of the clergy of the Church of Alexandria who do not agree with the decision of Patriarch Theodore to recognize the OCU pursues different goals, and none of them is obvious, writes the Orthodox times. Referring to its sources in Moscow, the resource claims that one of the goals of this statement is “to create such a separatist movement in order to put pressure on Patriarch Theodore to overturn his decision on the” Epiphany Church “in Ukraine.”
“And if this plan doesn’t work, there are rumors of an alternative plan. As the details of the plan show, this plan could accelerate the removal of Theodore by replacing him with a pro-Moscow man, ”the website further writes.
The authors claim – among the “pro-Moscow” hierarchs – Metropolitans Meletius of Carthage and Seraphim of Zimbabwe can put pressure on Patriarch Theodore.
Other possible “friends” of Moscow are Metropolitans of Kenya Macarius, Burundian Innokenty, Kirinsky Athanasius and Bishop Neophyte of Nieria, the site writes.
Earlier, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church announced that it would consider the issue of accepting under its omophorion the clerics of the Alexandrian Church who disagree with the decision of Patriarch Theodore to recognize the OCU.
