On October 5-6, the OSCE Council in Warsaw considered the issue of violation of the rights of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The initiator of the appeal to European human rights organizations was the head of the non-governmental public organization “Public Advocacy” Denisov O.S., according to the official website of the UOC.
To the appeal were added materials, which, in particular, contain a statement of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary about the unlawful deprivation of educational premises, statements of the UOC dioceses about the seizure of churches and about numerous decisions of local governments to deprive the rights of religious organizations of the UOC on land plots belonging to them, including under the already built churches, about decisions to “ban the UOC”, information about the criminal proceedings opened against the UOC episcopate, as well as about the bill “on the ban of the UOC” and the law “on renaming”.
The human rights activist expressed the hope that the information about the violation of the rights of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at such a high level will encourage the President of Ukraine and representatives of state bodies of the country to give the supporters of the UOC the opportunity to freely practice their religion and will stop the fulfillment of the political order to persecute the Church.
