Court postpones hearing on eviction of monks from Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

On April 4, 2024 in the Northern Economic Court of Appeal held a hearing of the case on the termination of the contract on the use of the premises of the “lower Lavra” by the brotherhood of the Holy Assumption Kiev-Pechersk monastery of the UOC. As a result of the process the court hearing was postponed to April 25, 2024. About it reports UOJ with reference to the lawyer of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Archpriest Nikita Chekman.

It is reported that during the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Culture said that no one can live in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Culture missed the fact that in one of the buildings of the monastery now live representatives of the PCU. Lawyers of the Lavra believe that the Ministry of Culture, expelling the monks from the monastery, violates their rights to housing, as well as hinders education, as seminarians and teaching staff of the KDAiS were forced to leave the monastery.

As a result, the court hearing on the eviction of UOC monks from Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was postponed. It will be held on April 25, 2024 at 15:00.
