A well-known lobbyist of the OCU in the mass media, Andriy Kovalyov, has complained about the law adopted in the Verkhovna Rada aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Kovalyov believes that the adopted law will be unrealistic to implement in practice. He said this in an interview with the Pervyi Zapadnyy channel on air of the Main for the Day program.
“In my opinion, this is a PR or hype trap that Ukrainian politicians created and fell into it themselves. It is clear that there is an urgent need in society to decide the fate of this main Putin structure in Ukraine. We realize that Russian agents are also working in cassocks. And the religious organization, which is actually a Russian organization, continues to exist. This is Putin’s last hope. The most branched organization in Ukraine, which has its offices not only at the regional and district levels, but also in villages. According to different estimates, it is from 9 to 12 thousand separate legal entities”, – Kovalyov said.
In addition, according to Kovalyov, the implementation of the law is virtually impossible because the UOC is not one, more than ten thousand separate legal entities.
“According to this law, voted in the first reading, it will be necessary for each religious organization to conduct a study of its statutory documents, a study of its activities. Later, if we get confirmation that it is a religious organization with a center in the aggressor country, it is necessary to transfer these materials to the court. That is, it should be 10,000 courts. I do not believe in the viability of this scheme”, – explains Andrei Kovalev.
It should be noted that Kovalyov’s colleagues Filipovich and Shchetkina expressed a similar opinion earlier. They are also not sure that the law on banning the UOC adopted in the Verkhovna Rada will be implemented in practice.
