A Uniate who advocated unification with the UGCC in Transcarpathia has defected to the OCU

On September 13, 2023, Vasyl Mandzyuk, a cleric of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic diocese, transferred to the Mukachevo-Karpattya diocese of the OCU, – the website of the OCU diocese reports.

It is known that the “priest” criticized the reluctance of the Mukachevo diocese of the OCU to unite with the UGCC and stated that this violated his “constitutional right to profess his faith” in the national community. He saw the reason for this as the resistance of certain circles associated with Hungarians and Slovaks, which, according to him, was led by Moscow’s interference.

Therefore, Mandzyuk decided to convert to the OCU “on his own convictions,” which he wrote in a petition to “Bishop” Viktor Bed.

The Uniate was the rector of two temples in Mezhyhirya settlement, but he left to the OCU without the temples. Bed appointed him as one of the “clerics” in St. Nicholas church in the village of Chinadievo.

It is also reported that during the meeting, Viktor Bed gave Vasyl Mandzyuk a Bible and a photo card with “the great prophet of the Ukrainian nation” Taras Shevchenko.
