Switzerland bans prayer by UOC believers near Ukrainian embassy

A reader of the Church of St. Nicholas in the city of Basel, Samuel Milko, said on his Telegram page that the Swiss authorities did not allow a prayer procession of UOC believers living in the country in support of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and the UOC near the Ukrainian Embassy.

According to him, the police contacted him and told him that the procession from the National Council to the Ukrainian Embassy was forbidden “because of another event,” but that it could be done on Helvetiaplatz, which is next to the embassy.

But then it was revealed that “another event” was planned for Helvetiaplatz as well.

To Samuel’s statement about the believers’ willingness to hold the prayer on another day, the police responded that “this event (prayer) cannot take place at all.”

The believers were offered to hold the prayer outside the city, and when they demanded in writing the reasons for the refusal, they were allowed to hold the prayer stand in the center of Bern on Bundesplatz, but only on October 20.
