Religious scholar: UOC will begin to undermine civil confrontation over Lavra

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is not going to leave its buildings and seeks to inflame civil confrontation. Oksana Gorkusha, a senior researcher at the Department of Religious Studies of the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences, told KIЇV24.

“I think that tomorrow we should expect another attempt to rock the civil confrontation within the country,” she said.

Oksana Gorkusha added that the UOC has the means to pressure the authorities.

“They don’t want to leave. The UOC MP has mechanisms to influence the public sphere in Ukraine. They will complain about persecution of the ‘true Orthodox Church’ and the like. This situation has dragged on. Citizens of Ukraine, who are believers of this institution, have become hostages. This institution has little to do with the Church. It is an organization that is subordinate to the ROC. They have one task, to show that there is supposedly persecution of Orthodoxy”, – said Gorkusha.
