Vatican envoy Cardinal Matteo Zuppi said that during his visit to Moscow there was no discussion of a peace plan, but only of “humanitarian initiatives that could open paths to peace,” ilrestodelcarlino.it reported.
“Under the leadership of Pope Francis and with him in the coming days, we will reflect on what we heard in Moscow. That is why we do not yet have a plan that could facilitate the beginning of negotiations. We are very interested in the humanitarian issue and protecting the lives of innocent people,” he said.
The cardinal also added that right now, “there is no peace plan, no mediation, there is a strong desire for the violence to stop.”
It is known that from June 28 to 29, 2023, the Vatican Cardinal met in Moscow with the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, with Yuri Ushakov, assistant to the Russian President on foreign policy issues, and with Maria Lvova-Belova, the Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights.
