Lawyer told about the manipulation of the authorities around the Sretensky temple in Cherkasy

Lawyer Igor Vladimirovich Golubchik, who represents the interests of the community of the Sretensky Church in Cherkasy, explained the situation that has developed around the parish. This is reported by the Telegram channel Cherkasy Evangelist.

The human rights activist said that recently, the rector of the church, Archpriest Eugene Burkatsky, has received messages from parishioners about the priest’s alleged intention to transfer the community to the jurisdiction of the ОCU, which did not correspond to reality.

As a consequence, the rector of the church called a general meeting of the members of the religious community, which was held in the premises of the Sretensky church in Cherkasy.

“During the meeting all its participants, except for one person who abstained from voting, unanimously confirmed their subordination in canonical and organizational matters to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by the Blessed Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Onufry and to the decisions of the Holy Synod of this Church. According to the results of the general meeting of the parish, minutes were drawn up, sealed and signed by those present,” the report said.

On June 29, the day after the meeting of the religious community, a meeting of persons claiming to be members of the religious community was held in the park of Khimiks, near the Sretensky temple. Representatives of the government, local authorities, and security services also attended the gathering, which incited religious discord between the two religious organizations through their speeches: The Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

The lawyer urged these individuals not to violate the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine and asked the competent authorities “to provide a proper legal assessment and to take measures in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine.
