On 17 June 2023, there was an incident in the town of Netishin in which UOC believers and clergy prevented provocation by local supporters of the OCU, the UOC Information and Education Department reports.
Believers and clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church gathered outside the cathedral in honour of the icon of the Mother of God “Neopalimaya Kupina” in order to protect their shrine from the seizure. Having heard the demands of the supporters of OCU, the prior of the cathedral archpriest Victor Tishkun has given the exhaustive answers to all provocative questions of the persons which are not belonging to the religious community of the temple, trying to decide its jurisdictional belonging.
However, the supporters of the OCU, seeing the determined position of the faithful to remain in the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by the Blessed Metropolitan Onufry, left the territory of the temple.
The abbot and clergy of the cathedral expressed their gratitude to all members of the religious community of the church for defending the Orthodox faith and upholding their legal rights to remain in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and to the law enforcement agencies of Netishin for ensuring law and order during these events.
