Metropolitan Feodosiy spoke about secular religion in Ukraine

In his address to the faithful, Metropolitan Feodosiy spoke about the process of secularization of Orthodoxy in Ukraine.

“Communities gathered around the Chalice, having God in their hearts, not in words, but in the weekly Communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ – these are small communities, of which, as we say, there are 20-30 people in the village, they make up the real Orthodox Church of our people. If they are expelled from their churches, because this is the task facing the authorities today, Orthodoxy in Ukraine will officially become a completely secular religion,” the bishop said.

He also added that this type of religion is common in the Catholic Church in most European countries.

“There, too, a temple is opened for a holiday, for example, at Christmas. People came, prayed and dispersed for six months. That’s what secular religion means. They don’t need Christ, they don’t need reading spiritual literature, daily prayer. They don’t need Communion simply because they don’t know or don’t understand what it is. This is an ordinary modern secular religion,” the metropolitan explained.

Also, Bishop Feodosiy emphasized that “when a society slides into such secularism, it seeks to destroy the church that carries the charge of the Holy Spirit.”
