The war in Ukraine, which has been going on for more than a year, is allegedly driven by the interests of several empires, not just the Russian one. This was stated by Pope Francis, according to Reuters.

Francis said that the conflict was fueled by “imperial interests not only of the Russian Empire, but also of other empires.”

He expressed his willingness to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin to call for peace.
