The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, is ready to visit Kiev on condition that he pays a visit to Moscow immediately afterwards. This was told by the Ukrainian ambassador to the Vatican Andriy Yurash, reports Radio Liberty.
“The relevant question (about the invitation to Kiev, – ed.) is constantly sounding. We are reminded of it. And just the other day at official and unofficial meetings talked about it. Then there were also invitations: from the Prime Minister and all other official persons. The pope knows it very well. He has his vision. He wants and officially says that a possible, potential visit to Kiev, which he does not refuse, which he wants to realize, he necessarily connects with a visit to Moscow”, – said Andriy Yurash.
At the same time, the Ukrainian ambassador to the Vatican added that such desires of the Pope cannot be realized because Moscow does not invite the Pontiff to visit.
“Obviously, we realize the unrealistic nature of this very position. Moscow does not want to see. It does not send the same messages of cooperation and collaboration with the Vatican. And even a formal invitation”, – said the official.
We shall remind you that earlier we reported that the Ukrainian ambassador to the Vatican, Andriy Yurash, reacting to the Pontiff’s resonant remarks about the need for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, said that he planned to meet with Pope Francis in order to “convey to the Pontiff several points that are basic for Ukraine”.
