Archimandrite Nil (Adesi) is convinced that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church now has His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, who is an elder prayer book, as its Primate. He said this in an interview on the YouTube channel of the Odessa diocese on August 16, 2021, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
Archimandrite Nil is a well-known European scientist, professor of canon law at the Universities of Catanzaro, Trieste, Siena, formerly an Athonite monk, a student of the famous Athonite elder Joseph of Vatopedi. Father Neil is a clergyman of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the confessor of many Orthodox Italians and representatives of the multinational diaspora in Italy.
Answering a question about the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the priest said that he had heard about him on Holy Mount Athos, where the monks “were always amazed at his modesty and humility.”
“I think that it is truly God’s gift for the Church of Ukraine to have an elder Metropolitan at this time,” he said.
According to Father Nil, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church made the right choice by choosing a true prayer book as Primate.
“If we elect strategists, politicians, and not prayer books, then we will thus contribute to the destruction of the Church,” the theologian noted.
