Bulgaria to close church where expelled Russian Orthodox priest served

Representatives of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Bulgaria reported that the temple of the Russian Orthodox Church in Sofia will close due to the expulsion from the country Archimandrite Vassian and two other officials. This is reported by the publication Korrespondent.

“This ancient Russian church, which for many years was a place of joint worship of Russians and Bulgarians, will now be closed”, – said in the Ministry.

The Russian Foreign Ministry wrote that it was “outraged and shocked” that Bulgaria had expelled the priests from the country and called the act by the Bulgarian authorities “hostile” and “contrary to logic.”

“People who dedicated their lives to serving God in the name of the unity of the Russian and Bulgarian peoples based on common religion and Christian values were transported by the Bulgarian immigration service as criminals in a car with bars on the windows back to the temple to collect their belongings,” officials said.

The ministry saw “sacrilegious” symbolism in the fact that all this happened on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
