Archimandrite Kirill Govorun is banned from ministry

September 25, 2023 Archimandrite Kirill (Govorun) was banned from ministry. Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church issued a decree to this effect, according to the website of the Moscow diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

“The written pledge of allegiance to the Russian Orthodox Church given by you was repeatedly violated by you, which was expressed, among other things, in your co-service with the bishops and clergy of the Church of Constantinople, with which, by decision of the Holy Synod, eucharistic communion was interrupted because of the rude invasion of the canonical territory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In this regard, you, as a violator of your priestly oath, according to the 25th Rule of the Holy Apostles, are hereby banned from the priestly ministry without the right to wear the cassock and the priestly cross and teaching priestly blessing for the time of consideration of your case in the diocesan court of the Moscow diocese,” the document says.
