Coptic Patriarch Tawadros II has sent a letter to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia expressing “deep sorrow over the persecution of Metropolitan Jonathan, who was sentenced to a five-year prison term.” This is reported by mospat.ru.

“We sent a protest to the Ukrainian Embassy in Cairo, as the clergy should not become victims of political conflicts,” the Primate of the Coptic Church noted in the mentioned letter.

Earlier, in April 2023, Patriarch Tawadros also issued a statement in defense of the Assumption Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
