Religious scholar Lyudmila Filipovich noted that, according to a KIIS poll, in Ukraine “the number of supporters of a complete ban on the UOC has significantly increased,” so “the state must respond.” About this writes the publication NV.
“For me, for example, there is some kind of split here. That is, as a person who wants to live in the legal field, who is a little familiar with the laws, I understand that it is impossible to ban a church that is not a legal entity. But as a citizen of Ukraine , which has been living in the situation of the Russian-Ukrainian war for 9 years, I support the ban with all my heart, with all my hands and feet. So, there can be only one conclusion from this, that it should be banned, but in a legal way,” Filipovich said.
She added that, according to Ukrainian law, a church can be banned only as a result of a court decision.
“This, by the way, is also required by international law. No one indiscriminately bans anyone there,” the religious scholar noted.
According to her, “we are not Russia, we are still Ukraine, which aspires to join the European Union, therefore we must adhere to international documents, and value, respect our own laws. If this law does not suit us, then we simply need it change. And for this it is necessary for deputies to gather in the Verkhovna Rada and adopt the right laws.”
