The rector of the UOC Cathedral is accused of “inciting religious hatred”

The rector of the UOC Cathedral in Uzhgorod, Archpriest Dimitry Sidor, will be tried for his statement regarding the OCU, according to the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

On April 28, 2023, the prosecutor’s office of the Transcarpathian region filed an indictment against the archpriest, stating that he “spoke offensively about the faith and beliefs of the supporters of the OCU. For a long time this formed an intolerant and hostile attitude in society.”

The accusers are also sure that the priest called the OCU leaders “godless”, and compared this structure itself with “an empty, graceless basement with spiders”, “the confession of the dead”, “a stray religion”.

Also, experts in the prosecutor’s office found that Fr. Dimitry called the Tomos of the OCU the receipt of a “forged piece of paper”, and its receipt – “the madness of a bunch of non-Orthodox people.”

The rector of the cathedral is accused under Part 1 of Art. 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (incitement of religious enmity and hatred).
