On April 21, 2023, the Court of Appeal left the vicar of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl, under round-the-clock house arrest. Metropolitan Pavel must wear an electronic bracelet until May 30. The recording of the court session was conducted live by the lawyer of the archpriest Nikita Chekman, the Information and Education Department of the UOC reports.
Defenders pointed to bishop’s health problems, and also to the fact that the Metropolitan does not live in the house where he should be by court order.
They also noted that round-the-clock house arrest is one of the most severe measures provided for by the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. However, the court did not satisfy their demands.
