Zhytomyr city council voted to ban the UOC

On April 21, 2023, a meeting of the 27th session of the Zhytomyr City Council was held, at which the deputies voted in favor of supporting the government’s anti-church bill No. 8371. This is reported by the website of the City Council.

“Having familiarized myself with the draft Law of Ukraine No. 8371 dated 01/19/2023 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Activities of Religious Organizations in Ukraine”, the Zhytomyr City Council supports the introduction of the proposed changes and insists on the speedy legislative settlement of the ban on the activities of religious organizations that are affiliated with centers influence, the leading center (management) of which is located outside Ukraine in the state that carries out armed aggression against Ukraine.

The city council also asks to resolve the issue of “the future fate of property owned by such organizations. Please take into account the opinion of the Zhytomyr city territorial community when adopting the draft law.”

“With today’s address, the deputies of the city council expressed their position: churches whose center is in Muscovy cannot work in Zhytomyr.
