On March 26, 2023, Metropolitan Luka (Kovalenko) of Zaporozhye announced that he was starting a hunger strike on Monday in support of the brethren of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

The bishop noted that this decision is not so much the position of a hierarch and a monk, but of a simple believer, since his “heart bleeds”, looking at what is happening with the shrine in Kiev.

Metropolitan Luka intends to hold a hunger strike in St. Nicholas Monastery in Zaporozhye. He also called on believers to come to this monastery and join the prayer for the UOC.
