The Secretary General of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Pastor Jerry Pillay, said that the actions of the Ukrainian authorities around the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra are directed against the Church itself and expressed concern about the ongoing events, reports oikoumene.org.
“It is very unfortunate that such actions, including those against the monastic community of the UOC of the ancient Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, seem to be directed against the Church itself,” said Jerry Pillay.
“The actions taken against the UOC do raise serious questions regarding the observance of freedom of religion or belief,” he added.
