On February 8, 2023, a supporter of the OCU and the author of blogs on Ukrinform, Lana Samokhvalova, stated that “both Ukrainian churches – the OCU and the UGCC – are completing this liturgical year according to the Julian calendar for the last time.”
The blogger boasted that she knew how to “switch to a new style of the church calendar, when the whole church lives according to the old style,” since, according to her, it refers to “the arrival of the Kyiv saints of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which was the first to give a kind of model in Ukraine of such transition”.
She also noted that this is only the first stage of reforms for fixed holidays. At the second stage, “an improved system for calculating the date of Easter will be introduced,” since “Rome and Constantinople are already engaged in a dialogue about this, and it is possible that a compromise will soon be found for the common date of the Resurrection of Christ.”
Samokhvalova urged like-minded people to rejoice at the “overdue changes”, read the “history of the new calendar” and do not forget to “calculate the date of your own name day according to the new style.”
