Synod of the Estonian Orthodox Church: Our Church opposes all wars

On October 6, 2022, the Synod of the Estonian Orthodox Church published an Appeal in which it responded to accusations of supporting the war in Ukraine.

«There are accusations against our Estonian Orthodox Church, as if it calls for the continuation of the conflict and for violence, although nothing like this has happened during the entire war and could not be. Our Church opposes any wars, it is for peace and for the peaceful resolution of any conflicts», – the Address notes.

«The Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate supported the statement of the Council of Churches of Estonia dated March 19, 2022, condemning the military actions of Russia in Ukraine», – the members of the Synod recalled.

The Address also states that «the ongoing war in Ukraine does not leave Estonians indifferent. Many people have relatives and friends who found themselves in the conflict zone and, most tragically, on both sides. The echoes of this military confrontation, both through direct communication between people and with the help of the media, reach our country, involving the minds and hearts of the people of Estonia in this confrontation.»

The Synod of the EOC called on its parishioners «to pray for Ukraine, so that in time of trouble and sorrow the Lord would accept our prayers and humble tears, so that the light of God’s love would enlighten every person suffering in this world.»
