On April 18, 2022, the “bishop” of the UOC-KP in the USA, Luka Zgoba, visited the mayor’s office and city council of the city of Philadelphia. As reported on the page of the “Kyiv Patriarchate” on Facebook, the visit was about a number of projects for the further development of international cooperation to support the people of Ukraine, about projects at the local and state levels, improving policies aimed at developing a constructive multicultural dialogue of nations in the city of Philadelphia.
“Cooperation was proposed within the framework of the development of the educational environment, assistance to students in exercising the right to education in war conditions, creating additional opportunities for access to educational platforms and resources from Ukraine. Proposals were also made to conduct 10-day visits aimed at familiarizing students of different age groups with the activities of law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, the mayor’s office of the city of Philadelphia, in order to provide concrete examples of democratic standards for the operation of public institutions in the United States of America to Ukrainian students fighting for the right to education and obtaining a diploma in extremely difficult conditions,” the UOC-KP reports.
Representative of the Philadelphia City Council David Oh emphasized that youth support is a necessary condition for the further development, stabilization, modernization and reconstruction of Ukraine in the post-war period.
Doctor of Law Alla Pukhtetska, Professor Veronika Matvienko, as well as a representative of the Lithuanian community and a religious cell in Philadelphia, Audrius Palionis, also took part in the talks.
