Metropolitan Hilarion: Patriarch Bartholomew and I greeted, but did not speak

Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk spoke about his participation in the meetings that took place a few days ago at the initiative of the Pope in the Vatican, commenting on the communication he had with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, the Orthodox times writes.

“There was no all-round communication between me and Patriarch Bartholomew and was not foreseen. But together we participated in two events organized by Pope Francis – one on climate change and the other on education – and sat at a distance from each other.

In one case, the Archbishop of Canterbury was sitting between us, and in the other, a representative of another religious denomination.

Both times we were at these events, we greeted each other. And that was the end of our communication, ”said Metropolitan Hilarion.
