The head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, spoke out against the equality of Turkish Cypriots on September 26, EADaily reported.
Archbishop Chrysostom’s statement was a response to the demand of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar to equalize the rights of the Turkish Cypriots with the Greek Cypriots. The First Hierarch of the Cypriot Orthodox Church considered this demand unacceptable and declared: “This cannot happen.”
According to him, Turkish Cypriots cannot be granted the same rights as Greek Cypriots.
