Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the United States is making attempts to create an autocephalous non-canonical church in Belarus, and in Ukraine their main concern is to take property from the canonical UOC: churches and parishes, TASS reports.

Answering the question about how serious the statements are that the Americans have set themselves the goal of undermining the position of world Orthodoxy, the minister said: “We know this. And they do not particularly hide it.”

In this regard, Lavrov recalled that during the administration of former US President Donald Trump, there was a special representative for freedom of religion. “And this man actively worked to convince Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople to give tomos to schismatics in Ukraine. This is how the non-canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine was formed. their main concern is to take away property from the canonical UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate: churches, parishes, “added the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
