Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau urged the Romanian Church to dialog

On March 6, 2024, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau, sent a letter to Patriarch Daniel of Romania, in which he urged the Romanian Church to dialog. The website of the Church of Moldova reports that.

“It is painful to observe how material interests awaken adaptive patriotism in some ministers of the Church, and the salary offered affects the perception of one’s nationality, a salary that some of our priests who have not even moved to the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia receive,” the letter reads.

According to Metropolitan Vladimir, “under the cover of Synodal Decree No. 8.090 of December 19, 1992, clergymen banned from ministry or deprived of ministry for serious moral transgressions and for incompatibility with priestly ministry are accepted as ministers of the Metropolis of Bessarabia. Others, who until yesterday declared their loyalty to the Metropolis of Moldova, have left our Metropolis without asking for a letter of leave, which we issue to every clergyman who requests it.”

“Your Beatitude, it is necessary that the Romanian Orthodox Church’s involvement in this bleeding wound bring healing through fraternal dialog, the restoration of communion and the establishment of canonical obedience. Money will not bring peace to the territory between the Prut and the Dniester. We wish that salvation and care for the faithful prevail, regardless of their belonging to one or another canonical structure, so that the good intentions of Your Beatitude do not turn the Metropolis of Bessarabia into a bottomless sack, which depletes the material resources of the Romanian Orthodox Church,” Metropolitan Vladimir emphasized.

We shall remind you that earlier we wrote that a loud scandal broke out in Moldova between the Kishinev-Moldavian Metropolitanate of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia of the Romanian Church.
