Iryna Gubeladze, a candidate of psychological sciences and an employee of the Institute of Social and Political Psychology, has said that believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church do not switch to the OCU because of a high level of faith. According to the psychologist, this reason affects the critical perception of information. About this she told in an interview with the publication “Glavcom”.

“It’s a really difficult combination. When a person is forbidden, for example, the Russian language, will he resist and prove his right to it? It is the same here: the believers of the MF, who are under the influence of their “fathers”, are forbidden to go to their church. This causes a lot of aggression, resistance on their part”, – the psychologist noted.

Gubeladze added that people who have a high level of faith in any religion trust their clergy unconditionally, and therefore are strongly influenced by it and do not evaluate it critically.

“People in this state are more open to suggestion, they are not critical of what they are told. The words of the abbot are perceived as the single truth, this message is written down unaccountably as the only correct norm. That is why it is very common to hear from the believers of the Moscow Patriarchate that this war, they say, we deserved it, we sinned, and God punished us in this way. Thus, the responsibility is transferred from the aggressor country to the higher powers. A believer, being in a trance state, hears it from a bishop now and then and begins to sincerely believe in it”, – explained Gubeladze.
