The head of the parliamentary committee for humanitarian and information policy, Mykita Poturaev, has said that the actions of the SSEF in the issue of banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are politically motivated and always depend on the mood in the Office of the Presidency. He told about this in a commentary to the Glavkom publication.

“The fact is that the State Service (SSEF,- ed.) is not an independent regulator, like, say, the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, whose members are elected by competition. This service is subordinate to the Cabinet of Ministers, so its actions can always be called politically motivated. And freedom of conscience is a fundamental freedom in Europe – it is even above the rights of national minorities”, – says Poturaev.

In addition, Nikita Poturaev believes that if the future law on the ban of the UOC is filled with contradictory norms, as a result, the European Commission may force the already adopted law to cancel it altogether. “And then the current state of affairs with the UOC-MP will be legalized forever and ever”, – summed up the MP.

It is worth noting that recently, parliamentarians have been extremely cautious on the topic of banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The decrease in activity on this issue is argued by the negative reaction of the international community on this topic. We shall remind you that earlier we reported that the head of the international law firm Amsterdam & Partners LLP and the lawyer of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Robert Amsterdam, said that he intended to bring to international responsibility the authors of the bill No. 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
