The head of the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience, Viktor Yelensky, commenting on Radio Kultura on the air of the draft law 8371, said that he imagines the number of court cases after its final adoption and even knows how it will happen, but will not tell, “so as not to make the work of opponents easier.”
“Every community is a legal entity. And a whole association, which includes communities, monasteries, brotherhoods, management centers, is not a legal entity. Therefore, we already imagine the number of court cases and how it will happen. But in order not to make the work of opponents easier, I will not tell you”, – he said.
When asked how many such religious organizations were counted in the SSEF, Elensky noted that “in general, there are 35 thousand religious organizations in Ukraine.”
“Regarding possible lawsuits, we do not yet know how certain organizations will react to this law. So when we talk about the complexity of this procedure, we must remember two things. The first is that democracy is always a procedure, a long and exhausting one. And the second thing is that the authors of all those bills that were submitted, as far as I’m concerned, didn’t really think about what will happen when they are passed. So we have to go through all this”, – emphasized the chairman of the SSEF.
