Yuriy Chernomorets said that the ECHR supported the position of the Ukrainian authorities on the renaming of the UOC

Ukrainian religious scholar Yuriy Chernomorets has said that the European Court of Human Rights has allegedly issued a ruling which recognized the legitimacy of Kiev’s demands to rename religious organizations in Ukraine. Pravblog writes about it.

According to Chernomorets, it was after this verdict that the Constitutional Court unblocked the “anti-church” law adopted under Poroshenko, which requires the UOC to abandon its official name and to be called the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.

In addition, the religious scholar claims that the ECHR ruling confirms the right of the authorities to restrict the activities of religious organizations for reasons of national security.

This information needs to be clarified, as Yuriy Chernomorets is known for frequently “issuing” fakes about the UOC.
