Mayor of Nikopol Oleksandr Sayuk said that local authorities do not have the right to prohibit the activities of communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, venal-nk.com.ua reports.
“Local self-government is not a body that adopts or changes laws, it is an executive body,” the mayor said at a press conference. “We can make our own decision to ban their (UOC – Ed.) activities, but it will not have legal force.”
The mayor also added: “If a law is adopted at the state level that regulates the activities of certain confessions, then we will fulfill it.”
