On January 31, 2023, as a result of heavy shelling, the Holy Assumption Nikolo-Vasilyevsky Monastery near Volnovakha was badly damaged, the monastery’s telegram channel reported.

“For several days in a row, the monastery was shelled from large-caliber guns that left through holes in the buildings up to 1 meter in diameter. There are many deep pits on the territory of the monastery, trees are cut, everything is cut down. On January 31, in the morning, cluster shells rained down on the monastery. Rockets exploded in the air and everything around was pierced with hundreds of deadly fragments,” the report said.
