President Volodymyr Zelensky approved sanctions against a number of representatives of the UOC. The corresponding presidential decree No. 863/2022 is published on the President’s website.
By his decree, Zelensky put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of December 11 “on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)”.
New sanctions applied to persons:
Metropolitan of Zaporozhye and Melitopol Luka (Kovalenko);
Metropolitan of Lugansk and Alchevsk Panteleimon (Povoroznyuk);
Archimandrite Alexander (Prokopenko), rector of the Melitopol St. Savinsky Monastery;
rector of the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Kherson, Archpriest Alexander Fedorov;
Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Boryspil and Brovary, manager of the affairs of the UOC;
Metropolitan of Chernivtsi and Bukovina Meletiy (Yegorenko), Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC;
Archbishop Paisiy (Shinkarev) of Konstantinovsk, vicar of the Gorlovka diocese of the UOC.
Restrictive measures include the blocking of assets, the cessation of trade operations, the cessation of the transit of resources, flights and transportation by Ukraine, the prevention of the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine, the suspension of economic and financial obligations, the annulment or suspension of licenses and other permits for activities, and other sanctions.
