At the Synod in Magdeburg, the President of the Council of the Evangelical Church of Germany, Annette Kurschus, stressed that it is important to prevent further escalation of the war in Ukraine.
“If a Russian soldier is killed, then he should be mourned no less than a Ukrainian soldier; this is also a person,”she added.
Kurshus called for solidarity with Ukraine, saying that “it is impossible to unambiguously approve or reject arms transfers.”
“A weapon helps to fight back and protect oneself, it can save a life, that’s a lot. But weapons alone do not create peace,” she said, adding that “we urgently need to find a way to cease fire.”
