On September 2, 2022, Metropolitan Luka of Zaporizhzhya and Melitopol visited the St. John’s Monastery in Jasenovac (Croatia). This is reported by the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with a link to the Facebook page of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Pakrac.
Metropolitan Luka bowed to the monastery shrines, familiarized himself with the history of the monastery, plans for its restoration, and consecrated the wheat of the new harvest.
Also, in the episcopal residence of the Jasenovac monastery, the bishop met with the hierarch of the Orthodox Church, Bishop Ioann of Slavonia.
The Jasenovac Monastery was founded in 1755. In 1941, the monastery was part of the complex of the Jasenovac concentration camp. Many Orthodox priests and laymen were martyred here. In 2012, the Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church canonized the Cathedral of the New Martyrs of Jasenovac.
Earlier it was reported that the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church co-served in the Polish Church.
